Mzisi James aims to bankrupt the banker on Deal or No Deal Celebrity

Radio Personality Msizi James is our next celebrity to join Katlego Maboe on the hot seat this Saturday, 18 May 2024, on SABC1 at 6 pm as he tries to win as much money as possible on behalf of an organization, The Character Company. Msizi is the second celebrity to choose The Character Company as his charity on Deal or No Deal Celebrity after Mo Flava walked away with R19,250.00 for the organization. Will Msizi walk away with more? Viewers will have to wait and see as he eliminates briefcases round after round, eliminating amounts of money from the money tree.

The Character Company’s goal is to help change South Africa’s current culture of violence and abuse through an initiative for boys by assisting them to grow into good men by instilling honourable values.

The Deal or No Deal gameshow makes dreams come true for ordinary South Africans to stand a chance to win in the battle against the stingy banker.

At the beginning of the show, one of the “Money Models” will hand over her briefcase, which will then be the one that will earn Msizi cash for the charity that he is playing for, The Character Company. Round after round, Msizi will eliminate boxes from the money tree with the hope that they contain the smallest amount of money. After each round, the show host, Katlego Maboe, receives a phone call from the mysterious banker, offering him a certain amount of cash in exchange for his briefcase. If he accepts the deal, the game is over. If not, he continues to play until he accepts the offer or leaves with the money inside the box initially given.

‘I have been a fan of Deal or No Deal for years, and when asked to come on the South African version, I was over the moon. I was even more excited when I found out that my chosen charity was The Character Company. I have worked with them in the past and was in awe of the work they do for the next generation of men in South Africa,’ – Msizi James

Tune into SABC 1 on Saturday at 18:00 to see how Msizi battles the banker to win money on behalf of The Character Company.  You can also catch the rebroadcasts of Deal or No Deal Celebrity on S3 on Sundays at noon and again on SABC 1 on Tuesdays at 22:00.

Vusi Nova is the first VIP playing for charity on SABC 1’s glitzy new Deal or No Deal Celebrity.

AND the show brings an exciting “Money Model” twist.

For the next year, 52 South African A-listers will put their hearts on the line to raise money for SABC 1’s spin-off celebrity version of Deal or No Deal

In the first episode of the glitzy new weekly Deal or No Deal Celebrity, screened on Saturday, 9 March at 18:00, the suave SAMA-winning Afro-pop star Vusi Nova will be in the hot seat to battle the show’s notoriously stingy banker.

Fans of the daily Deal or No Deal Show will know that Vusi will stand a chance to win anything between R1 and R250 000 for his chosen charity. However, there are no red boxes to open in the glamorous Deal or No Deal Celebrity. Instead, Vusi and all the big-name stars in upcoming episodes will be bargaining on what’s inside shiny silver suitcases held by twenty drop-dead gorgeous “Money Models”.

In many international editions of the popular Deal or No Deal franchise, these “Money Models” are lovely, long-legged ladies. Some of them have even moved on to become famous personalities in their own right, like Meghan Markle and Chrissy Teigen who had brief stints as briefcase models in the early days of Deal or No Deal USA.

However, the “Money Models” in our South African Deal or No Deal Celebrity are not all wearing slinky cocktail dresses. In an exciting twist, only ten of them are. The remaining ten are stylish, handsome guys who will most definitely have viewers swooning.

At the start of the Deal or No Deal Celebrity episodes, the big-name star in the hot seat will ask one of these “Money Models” to hand over their briefcase, which will then be the one that will earn the celebrity cash for the charity they are playing for. From there, the celebrity will ask the other Money Models to open their briefcases one by one in different rounds. After each round, the show’s host, Katlego Maboe, receives a phone call from the mysterious banker, offering the celebrity a certain amount of cash for their briefcase. If they accept the deal, the game is over. If not, they continue to play until they either accept an offer or are left with the money inside the one they initially selected.

Tune into SABC 1 on Saturday at 18:00 to see how Vusi fares in this nerve-wracking game of chance and to which worthy cause he will donate his winnings.

Deal or No Deal Celebrity’s repeat broadcasts are on SABC 3 on Sundays at 16:30 and SABC 1 on Tuesdays at 22:00.

Deal or No Deal Celebrity is produced by Homebrew Studios for Primedia Studios, and the series is proudly sponsored by LottoStar.

LottoStar is Licensed by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator. No U18. National Responsible Gambling Programme 0800 006 008. Ts & Cs apply. All games are fixed-odds betting events.

SABC 1 adds a glitzy new Deal or No Deal spin-off to its Saturday night schedule.

Get ready for a double dose of Deal or No Deal on SABC! For the next year, two local versions of the thrill-a-minute television game of chance, hosted by charming Katlego Maboe, will bankroll the dreams of individuals and communities from across the country.

In its new home on SABC 2, Mondays to Fridays at 18:30, the second season of the massively popular Deal or No Deal South Africa will continue to enrich the lives of ordinary South Africans. Then, on Saturdays at , beloved Mzansi A-listers will take big risks to boost the bank balances of charities close to their hearts in the brand-new glitzy SABC 1 spin-off Deal or No Celebrity.

The big-name stars on Deal or No Deal Celebrity, which kicks off on Saturday, 9 March, include famous actors, television and radio presenters, socialites, comedians, sports stars, woke social media influencers and other movers and shakers.

Although the premise of the game stays the same, with players being able to win anything between R1 and R 250 000, SABC 1’s glamorous weekly Deal or No Deal Celebrity weekend edition also features a bevy of beautiful “Money Models”.

Like the then little-known Meghan Markle and Chrissy Teigen did in the early days of Deal or No Deal USA, the 20 drop-dead gorgeous Money Models hold shiny, sealed silver briefcases with undisclosed sums of money. After picking one of these briefcases, not knowing what’s inside, the celeb then opens the others one by one while the mysterious banker tempts them with offers to buy their briefcase. They can accept the banker’s deal at any time or keep their briefcase until the end, running the risk that it contains a much smaller amount of money.

Besides the models, briefcases instead of boxes, and famous faces in the hot seat, Deal or No Deal Celebrity boasts a sleek new set in a different colour palette from the daily show. However, the most significant change is that the winnings don’t land in the celebrities’ personal bank accounts. They will each nominate a different worthy cause to which the money will be donated.

“SABC’s exciting new Deal or No Deal Celebrity spin-off highlights the public broadcaster’s mission to provide world-class entertainment that is positive, aspirational and impactful,” says Lala Tuku, SABC’s Acting Group Executive of Video Entertainment.

“We are committed to using the power of television for the greater good of our society. The first season of Deal or No Deal South Africa transformed the lives of more than 250 individuals, with over R5 million distributed. Now, we’re taking it one step further. Deal or No Deal Celebrity, spawned by a couple of top-rated special season 1 episodes featuring big-hearted celebs playing for charity, will make a substantial difference in many underprivileged communities.”

For LottoStar, the headline sponsor of both the South African Deal or No Deal versions, Deal or No Deal Celebrity is an extension of their passionate Corporate Social Responsibility media campaigns. “LottoStar is serious about lending a helping hand wherever it can,” says LottoStar’s founder and CEO, Tasoulla Hadjigeorgiou. “Over the past few years, we have empowered various communities and funded several charity projects in the medical, educational and sports fields. Building strong communities for a better future is not an obligation, but a privilege.”

The daily and weekly South African standalone Deal or No Deal series, produced by Homebrew Films, form part of Primedia Studios’. Tune into Deal or No Deal Celebrity on SABC1, Saturday at 18h00 and Deal or No Deal on SABC2, Monday to Friday at 18h30.
