Santos emerged from humble beginnings in Heideveld, a poor suburb on Cape Town’s vibrant Cape Flats, to grow into one of the most respected clubs in South Africa. The professional club, as we know it today, was established in 1983.
The nickname ‘The People’s Team’ reflects Santos’ connection with its fan base which comes mainly from the Cape Flats area. We look back with pride on our early years where we campaigned passionately and successfully under the auspices of the Heideveld-based Cape Flats FA who were affiliated to the non-racial Western Province Football Board.
It is with this kind of commitment and dedication both on and away from the football pitch that has made Santos FC an integral part of Cape Town and South Africa’s sporting environment.
