Soccer City will be the venue for the opening match of the tournament, as well as the final.
The existing stadium in the south of Johannesburg, the 80 000 seater FNB Stadium, was the perfect basis for the additions and alterations to get it up to FIFA standards for the 2010 FIFA World Cup ™. It now boasts 94 700 seats and 184 hospitality suites. The stadium has been transformed to be in the form of a gigantic calabash, something unique to rural African life as an everyday household utensil.
Location: Johannesburg
Capacity: 94 700
What makes it special: The largest sporting venue in South Africa and built in the form of a calabash.
