Johannesburg, 16 January 2013- The 2013 METRO FM Music Awards Finalists announcement, was held earlier today at a cocktail event at Summerplace,  in Johannesburg. The nominees, the industry and the media were invited to witness which artists have made it as finalists in this year’s awards.  Given the fact that the awards did not take place last November as it is the norm, the Finalists announcement was highly anticipated.  Metro FM being a station that celebrates local music, the guests were entertained by South Africa’s sensation and talented DJ Black Coffee, followed by DJ Ganyani and last but not least, the hilarious, ever colourful and  energetic Dr Malinga.

The MC’s at the event were our very own smooth Wiliam Lehong, The Black Chinese Guy, of the Pyajama Party Show and the ever so classy Azania Mosaka who presents Total Bliss weekdays on METRO FM.  Needless to say they did a sterling job. The voting lines will open at 24:00 on the 17th of January 2013 for the public to vote for their favourite artists to win the most coveted award, a Metro FM Award this year.  Remember to sms category name and favourite artistto 34764.  The voting lines will then close at 11:59 on the 17th of February 2013.

DJ Cleo

Cleopas Monyeapao Better Known By His Stage Name DJ Cleo Or M.R. Es’Khaleni Is A DJ, Producer, Songwriter And Founder/Owner Of Will Of Steel Productions. DJ Cleo, who hails from South Africa’s Gauteng East Rand, began his musical career at the tender age of ten. Having Marabi styles close to his heart, and being a bass player, Cleo sought out programming and engineering skills, even doing a stint at Allenby Campus on sound engineering, as he pursued a new concept in musicianship, that being the marriage of musical instrumental skills, programming skills and engineering skills.

A fortunate meeting with Ashifa Shabba, afforded him the opportunity to work in radio at Y FM. Cleo found producing for radio a natural extension of himself, and soon was exploring the producing full music for both himself and others.

Cleo’s debut recording was “Will of Steel which featured on the DJ Glen Lewis/DJ Fresh’s “Gatecrasher double CD compilation. The release was in real terms a great success for Cleo, and genuinely a portent of things to come, as soon he was producing and composing more and more music for more and more people. In fact whilst it would be a while before DJ Cleo would see his own debut album released, the proceeds from “Will of Steel provided the wherewithal to start Will of Steel Productions (PTY) Ltd, his wholly owned label, production house and publisher, and many hits were first to follow…

ANGIE KHUMALO

Angie Khumalo has a strong background in news and current affairs, and jokes that she knows a little bit about a lot of things. Angie loves to read novels and biographies and is an avid movie buff. You’ll often catch her at movie sneak previews and she puts those insider scoops to good use as 5FM’s ‘Zulu Maiden’ movie reviewer. The feature, which is Angie’s brainchild, was introduced in 2011 and has become so popular it’s grown in 2012 from once a week to a twice-weekly segment. On Fridays on The Rob Forbes Show Angie gives the low-down on what’s opening at the box-office that weekend and then on Saturdays, on KrazyBoy Weekends with KB, she tells listeners what’s hot and what’s not at the movies.

Another of her passions is all things fast. Angie describes herself as a speedfreak, adrenaline junkie and petrolhead. “I love motorbikes and fast cars – the faster the better. There’s nothing I won’t try once.” Which is precisely how Angie ended up riding across South Africa with fellow 5FM personality DJ Fresh and other celebrities in 2011 and again in 2012 as part of the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s Bikers For Mandela cross-country charity campaign. Along the route, which went from Joburg to Cape Town and back again, Angie and her fellow celebrity riders, including 5FM’s DJ Fresh, contributed to charitable initiatives and projects en route.

She became on of the most recognizable voices and faces in South African Hip Hop, even before releasing an album. Nthabi started out as the only girl free styling in ciphers and was later introduced to Helio, a producer who had worked with legendary South African Hip Hop record label, Outrageous Records. In 2006 Nthabi got signed to Outrageous Records, making her the first solo female MC to get a recording deal from a reputable record company in South Africa. She’s featured on various mixtapes, albums and songs as well as worked with a number of Hip Hop heavy weights, making her a well respected female within the industry. Nthabi’s skills haven’t gone unnoticed by the media. She has been featured by the likes of Hype Magazine and Y-mag as a promising new breed of entertainers. She has singles that have been featured on the Hype Sessions compilations (a CD that accompanies the only Hip Hop magazine in the country).
