Ellis Park has been around as a sport venue since 1927.
Some of the most memorable rugby Tests have been played on the hallowed turf of this Grand Old Lady. But in fact she has seen some major rebuilds over the years.
The old Ellis Park stadium was demolished and rebuilt in 1979. Her recent R240 million face-lift for the 2010 FIFA World Cup ™ increased the seating capacity to 62 000 by building a new tier on the North Stand. It now sports a new roof, new entrance façade, 5-storey parkade for 1 200 cars, new change rooms and VIP, medical and media facilities. The rebuilt stadium was the venue for the Confederations Cup final between Brazil and the United States.
Location: Johannesburg
Capacity: 62 000
What makes it special: It saw the Rugby Springboks win the World Cup in 1995.
