Room 9 is a 13 part police procedural drama series, set in the world’s only Occult Detective

Unit. Welcome to the world of Room 9, a 13 part television series set in an alternate Pan-African world, where evil thrives and darkness rules. Set in a specialized Police Occult Unit, lead by young and ambitious detective Alice Kunene, and seasoned vet, Harkness and their high tech team of detectives, they hunt down the perpetrators of evil, both in the world of the living and the dead. In an alternate, parallel world eerily familiar to our own, and in a city that could be Johannesburg or Kampala, Nairobi or Lagos, a war is being waged; a war between light and dark, between good and evil.

This is the New Azania. The provinces as we once knew them in South Africa are no more. Instead this new world is divided into Sectors. Standing in the way of perpetual darkness is a ragtag team, a special, under-the-radar division of the NAPD (the New Azanian Police Department) who deal exclusively with the paranormal, the supernatural, the sacrilegious, the twisted, and the unexplainable. This division, situated in a cavernous, dingy basement, called Room 9, is perceived as a shadowy unit, a backwater for every bizarre case, past, present, unsolved, and unwanted. Other departments disparagingly refer to this team as Zombie Cops.

Young, ambitious, driven, straight shooting police officer ALICE KUNENE (27) is excited at the prospect of being transferred to this division, because it is her first post as Detective, but she has no real idea what Room 9 is and what cases she will be dealing with. She is thrown into the deep end on her first case, when a domestic worker is found savaged to death in a Killarney-esque suburb, thought to be the work of the Tokoloshe. She immediately bumps heads with 57-year old Detective “DARKNESS” HARKNESS, the ageing, grizzled, head of Room 9, because she is fundamentally a non-believer of all things supernatural.

Alice is brought in, initially against her will, and indoctrinated in the ways of Room 9, which include working with key members of the unit, including research, ‘Siri’ using tech guru, RUBY PRINS (27), who despite being blind has preternatural powers of foresight, and Nigerian Voodoo man SOLOMON ONYEGU, an expert in all things paranormal.

Alice, a disciple of science and pragmatism, becomes the audience’s way into the story and it is definitively through her point-of-view that we get to discover this new, strange, sinister world in which nothing is as it seems.

Welcome to the playground of the Devil, where Satanic cults, Muti murders, the Tokoloshe,

Demons, Poltergeists, Zombies, Werewolves, Aliens, Vampires, and even a Mermaid, are all on the menu!

Dream World is an adaptation of William Shakespeare‘s “A Midsummer Nights Dream”. It watches four young lovers as they face several comedic challenges on the way to true love. At the beginning of the miniseries, the most stable of the couple is due to marry, while the others are at various stages of infatuation. Due to the intensity of midsummer madness, some jealousy (and perhaps a bit of magic), these lovers find themselves inexplicably tempted to betray their partners.Love in South Africa seems to follow much the same path. Faithfulness and commitment take second place to excitement and variety, and it is the rare relationship that goes the distance.

Orion & Hlengiwe

Dream World follows four couples, locked into tango in which the partner’s constantly switch. This dance of desire will be familiar to the youthful South Africa, and hopefully the series will give them pause for thought. Who amongst them hasn’t been swept along by infatuation? And who hasn’t felt as if they’ve stepped into a dream? Dream World takes place in a predominantly artificial world located within the hospitality industry. The setting is Dream world, an all in one estate that offers accommodation, conferencing and banqueting, a health and beauty spa, promotional venues, and even an open-air outdoor theatre, located in a beautiful wooded are on the extensive property.

Jafta Mamabolo

This world is a world where people are actively seeking diversion, and strange liaisons are made to be broken. At Dream world, the clientele’s mouth is working overtime, while their bodies are on vacation. It’s not surprising that the staff on the estate might be lead astray….Hearts are broken and dreams are dashed, and the central section of the miniseries sees the couples swapping partners as if they were to be sampled.

Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Nights Dream” pokes fun at the fickleness of human love. The play is essentially an ensemble piece with various protagonists, most of whom, fall in and out of love at the top of a hat. The single constant is a royal couple who are about to celebrate their wedding. While this couple has reached a level of maturity in their relationship, the other characters lead each other on a merry dance, constantly changing their minds and allegiances.

Cast includes: Lungelo Dhladhla (Hlengiwe); Pope Jerrod (Orion); Jafta Mamabolo (Lindelani); Kgomotso Momo Matsunyane (Neli); Lala Tuku (Tholakele); Lindani Nkosi (Baba); Bubu Mazibuko (Nobuntu); Leti Ndubane (Rosie); and Phumi Mncayi (Ndumiso).

Yizo Yizo 1 - A gritty, uncompromising television drama series set in a township school that has achieved record-breaking audiences and cult status amongst South Africa's youth.

Rape, murder, prostitution, abuse, HIV/AIDS. Serious issues. We wanted to contextualize them for people with the power of music, laughter, friendship and glamour to match the gritty authenticity of the work. Simple, universal themes proved their power to move audiences.

Street language made it into the family lounge and gave different generations the insight to a shared vocabulary with which to describe their reality. It is a stirring thing to see audiences screaming at the screen, dancing to the music and taking ownership of what we thought was ours.

The first series won 5 Avanti Awards including Best Production and Best Director. It also won the Japan Award and is being screened at festivals in London, Rotterdam, New York and Barcelona.

Ronnie Nyakale gave such a riveting performance as Papa Action that gangsters across the country saluted him as the ultimate thug. Ronnie won the Best Supporting Actor Avanti Award.

YIZO YIZO is the story of an ordinary school overcoming extraordinary obstacles. It is about the struggle of ordinary people to learn, play, teach, read, dream, love and find their place in the world. The school year starts at what seems a well-ordered Supatsela High. This reflects the efforts of the current principle, a strict and conservative man who attempts to make the most of limited resources. It soon becomes clear however, that his authoritarian style holds together by force a situation that is fundamentally unsound, and that it cannot continue to do so when the cracks in the ordered relationships of the school and its community begin to widen.

After a student is badly beaten at his hands, the principal is replaced by a charismatic BMW-driving colleague, who is in the pocket of the local township gangster. An end of term bash plummets Supatsela High into chaos. The start of the new term finds students and teachers facing a situation that has turned from bad to worse. Will drugs and gangsterism mean the end of Supatsela High? Can students and teachers work together to turn this ugly situation around?

Amid the education crisis, students grapple with the realities of teenage social life, where social confidence, academic success, emerging identities and sexualities are played across and between the boundaries of different social groups.
